WORLD RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP

Commencing 2011 each World Rally Championship (WRC) event must include one special stage on the final day for the purpose of enhancing television coverage. The fastest drivers and co-drivers will be awarded additional points (3-2-1) in accordance with the general classification of this stage.

An FIA Production Car Cup for drivers of 2WD cars entered in the Production Car World Rally Championship (PWRC) will be introduced in 2011 to encourage competitors in Group R cars. At each round of the PWRC, a separate classification will be produced for the drivers of 2WD cars and points allocated according to the same scale as the Championship. The Production Car Cup will be awarded to the driver who has scored the highest number of points. As entrants in the PWRC, drivers of 2WD cars must nominate their events from a list and can score points in both the PWRC and Production Car Cup.

From 2011, cars eligible to contest the FIA Super 2000 World Rally Championship must have a normally aspirated engine with a cylinder capacity of less than 2000cc. There will be no FIA WRC Cup from 2011.

After the fourth event in the 2011 WRC calendar, Manufacturer and WRC Teams are permitted to use a maximum of two engines per car for the remaining nine events.

Commencing from 2011, all cars will start special stages at one-minute intervals, to increase interest for spectators.

From 2011, Priority 2 drivers who have contested more than two consecutive rounds of the World Rally Championship will be awarded Priority 1 status for the remainder of the season. These drivers must then comply with the regulations pertaining to WRC Teams.

A specialist group representing interested parties will review the possibility of introducing GT cars to WRC events.

The FIA in association with the WRC promoter will establish an Academy for young drivers.

Reading all last posts on 2011 future cars I΄ve got totally confused again, so i open this thread to beg help to other forumers to make an accurate idea of types of cars for next year and following ones. I suppose there will be:
1 - WRC cars with 1.6T engines (new)
2 - s2000 cars post 1-jan-2011 with 1.6T engines too (?) (also new)
3 - s2000 cars pre 1-jan-2011 with 2.0 atmosferic engines (old) (same cars class as previous group?)
4 - N4 cars (Sub and Mits) (old)
5 - R cars (R1, R2, R3, R3T...) all of them 2WD and various motors (old)
Am I right? If wrong, please show me what΄s not right. And what with A8 WRC cars (C4, Focus, etc)? Will they still run next year in national championships or soever?
Thnx everybody

By request of Janvanvurpa I managed after all making some more comprehensive statistics of the seasons 1987 – 2003.

The files can be downloaded from here:

The downloading is a little bit tricky because there are three big “Download” buttons but they take you only to some commercial sites. The right download is in the box’s right lower hand corner “Save file to your PC: click here”.

http://www.2shared.com/document/UgFg...1987-2009.html

http://www.2shared.com/document/a9WL...1987-2009.html

http://www.2shared.com/document/y2Q5...1987-2009.html

The rally seasons also contain the cars and drivers file. There is also a table in the season file with all the drivers and the cars they’ve have been driving during 1987 – 2009.

I tried today to play a little bit by keeping the cars and driver’s files open simultaneously with the championship standings at www.juwra.com and looked what makes / drivers had most wins or podiums, and looked at juwra how it ended.

BTW, does anyone now a good site for up- and downloads. This site (www.2shared.com) seems to be ok and is free.

Sponsorship space on a Skoda in Rally GB 2010

*Sponsorship for a UK entrant a World Rally Championship event*

I am looking for sponsorship to compete in Wales Rally GB 2010 - the largest...

Sponsorship for a UK entrant a World Rally Championship event

I am looking for sponsorship to compete in Wales Rally GB 2010 - the largest spectator event in the UK, which takes place in November 2010. Unlike many other competitors in 4WD Subarus and Mitsubishis, we will be tackling the event in my home-built Skoda Felicia, giving us a unique appearance at the event, and a large amount of media interest compared to the expense of sponsoring a 'normal' entrant (whose tyre bill will be more than our entire event cost in many cases). Sponsorship is tax deductible, and an excellent way to reach hundreds of thousands of people on one of the UK's Premiere sporting events. Please read on to learn about the car, the team and the different levels of sponsorship we offer - we have something for all budgets, from £20 upwards!

Sponsorship:
Being an unusual car at World level, the Felicia generates a lot of interest, from the crowd, marshals and media alike. The 2006 entry included a 4-page article in Rally Results magazine, while the 2007 entry also resulted in extensive coverage in the Motorsports News supplement for the event, showing the vast difference in cost between the Skoda (originally bought for £40) and the Ford WRC team (where a single nut cost the same). 2008 saw the crew appreciated on the stages by the large crowds, with only Valentino Rossi being more popular, and several thousand hits per day of the team's frequently-updated blog of the event (cited by Motorsports News as "better than most manufacturers' efforts"), bringing the fans closer to the action than ever before. This year's blog will reflect the changes in technology allowing instant stage-by-stage updates as well as a day's summary as has been previously read by thousands of rally spectators

Benefits:
While everyone knows that times are tough financially at present, spectating at motorsports events is still extremely popular, and Rally GB is the largest event in the country - this allied to the crew's huge popularity (both because of the unusual car choice and the grass-roots nature of the team) creates a unique opportunity to publicise your company at World Rally Championship level for less than the tyre budget of a 4WD team. For that amount you could be the sponsor for the entire vehicle, allowing an extremely clear message to be shown to the 100,000+ crowd for the event, a great many of whom will be following the team with interest, particularly in the light of this being the last World Rally Championship appearance possible as the car will no longer be eligible for the WRC from 2011.
Aside from the profile generated by being associated with this fast-paced action-packed sport, you will benefit from close ties with the team with regular updates on progress before and during the event, with your company advertised on the website until the end of 2010 (with areas proportional to the area on the car), and with larger sponsorships areas, on-track and stage rides during September's RallyDay at Castle Combe - a unique experience to ride in a car which will be competing once more at WRC level in 2010 We offer areas to suit businesses of all budgets, as can be seen in the table at the bottom of the page. After the event you will receive a complete results package outlining the team's performance on the event, with photographs of the car in action with your livery on display.

The Car: R477 KRU
Group A-specification 1997 Skoda Felicia:
Weld-in Custom Cages International Rollcage
Gripper Limited Slip Differential
Close Ratio Gearbox
Group A "mini-kit" spec engine
Proflex Suspension
Uprated Brakes

The Skoda Felicia was a successful rally car in the F2 category, with many wins in its class, and Skoda hold the overall class wins record on Rally GB, with 24 including a 2006 Class A5 win by myself (Darren Jones)/Paul Burley in their previous Felicia, N158 UBD, and in 2008 by the same crew in R477 KRU. The car was built by Darren Jones in 2007, and has been upgraded considerably since 2008 with the addition of a new gearbox and differential, new suspension and a new engine offering considerably more performance.

The team:
Darren Jones - a Bournemouth-based Sound Engineer and Music Technology teacher, whose love of rallying started aged 16 watching the Mazda Winter Rally in Bournemouth. A first rally car (another Skoda) in 2004 led to an entry in 2005 in the Rallye Sunseeker, and has culminated in entering Wales Rally GB (the UK's leg of the World Rally Championship) in 2006-08. A class win was the result in 2006 in their previous Felicia, but a freak mechanical failure with the new car in 2007 put the team out of the event while leading their class again. 2008 was another strong performance with a class win, beating a crew in a faster car in another class as well.
Paul Burley - Bournemouth-based Paul is a divisional manager for a well known fast food chain, and has been navigating since 2005, originally stepping in at short notice for a National B-permit event, but then developing to National A and then International level, including spending a season getting his competition driving licence and progressing to International. Being extremely organised, Paul has taken to note-making at the highest level with ease, and has enabled a smooth timetable for each outing at Rally GB. Married and with his first child on the way, Paul is looking forward to Rally GB and competing for another class win on the event.
Sponsorship Areas Available on the car

My attention was to put both Grp A and WRC in the same post but the text was to long so I divided it in a Grp A part and a WRC part.

As there have been discussions about makes attending and possible makes attending the new WRC series, I made a list of the history from the group A and WRC cars that have been there. I put on the list only 4WD cars unless some 2WD have a win in a WRC event.

Most 4WD makes attending during the group A era was 6 in 1990 and 1991 but in both years only 3 of them got a win. Most (4) different makes won in 1989.

Most 4WD makes attending during the WRC era was in 1999 – 2002 (7). Most (5) different makes won in 2001.

From the list (in the WRC part) you can see for example that it was in 2006 when Subaru’s problem started.

Lets hope that the new WRC format (1.6T) will bring in more manufacturers and also more different winners compared what we have today (2 manufacturers of which the other one get the most wins).

As a source I used the excellent wed site www.juwra.com that is worth visiting. If I remember right the administrator of this web site is a Finnish forum member but I can’t remember who is it. But anyway, a great web site.

My attention was to put both Grp A and WRC in the same post but the text was to long so I divided it in a Grp A part and a WRC part (coming soon).

PS Looking at the home page it seems be Jonkka.

I love WRC. It is the only sport where the top drivers are so accessible to us mere mortals. Where else would I be overtaken by a Yellow Pirelli Mitsubishi Evo covered in Sweet Lamb mud but in mid Wales on the road to Cardiff. But one thing really worries me... after Petter Solburg, where are the personalities.

Matt Wilson is a nice guy, but if he is the only hope of kick starting British Rallying then it is doomed. Surely his Dad's instruction to get the car back in one piece at all costs, does not apply still. I think I will start putting money on Matt coming 7th regardless of the opposition.

As much as I admire Loeb, he's really not Mr Carisma. Ogier and Sordo don't exactly have it and will the two Ford Finns ever be Champions of the People?

Time WRC learnt a bit from MotoGP. Mind you when Rossi hangs up his leathers in 2 years time after the Ducati anti-climax, goodness knows what MotoGP will do?

It's sad, but Motorsport needs celebrities to attract the masses.
